The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device designed for effective diabetes management. It provides real-time glucose readings sent directly to your smartphone or FreeStyle Libre 2 reader, eliminating the need for finger pricks. The device helps improve glucose control, reduces time in hypoglycemia, and allows users to track the impact of activities, medication, and food on their blood sugar levels.

Featuring a comfortable and easy-to-use design, the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is clinically proven to significantly lower HbA1c and is suitable for both adults and children with proper supervision.

Preparing the Sensor:

  • Ensure the application area is clean, dry, and free from creams, lotions, or oils.
  • Gather the sensor pack, alcohol wipes, and the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader or compatible smartphone app.

Applying the Sensor:

  • Open the sensor pack carefully and remove the sensor from its protective packaging.
  • Clean the application site with an alcohol wipe and allow it to dry completely.
  • Attach the sensor to the cleaned area, ensuring it is pressed firmly against the skin. Hold in place for a few seconds to secure.

Starting the Sensor:

  • Activate the sensor by scanning the QR code using the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader or smartphone app to start glucose monitoring.

Scanning and Getting Readings:

  • Obtain glucose readings by scanning the sensor with the reader or using a compatible smartphone app.
  • Hold the reader or smartphone close to the sensor to initiate the scan and receive real-time glucose data, including trends.
  • Scan as often as desired, but at least once every eight hours to avoid gaps in your glucose history.

Configuring Alarms (Optional):

  • Set up alarms for high or low glucose levels and signal loss between the sensor and reader/app. Configure these via the user manual or app/settings.
  • To set up alarms through the FreeStyle LibreLink app:
  • Tap alarms in the menu section.
  • Enable the low glucose alarm. The signal loss alarm activates when the glucose alarm is turned on.
  • Scroll to select the low glucose value for alarm activation.
  • Press 'alarm tone' and select your desired tone.
  • Set your high glucose alarm using the same steps.

To set up alarms on the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader:

  • Touch the settings button.
  • Touch 'alarms', then 'change alarm settings'.
  • Turn on your chosen alarm; they are off by default. Signal loss alarm activates after a glucose alarm is set.
  • Use arrows to set the low and high glucose alarm levels.
  • Adjust alarm options in the 'sound and vibration' menu.

Managing Data:

  • Regularly scan the sensor throughout the day to monitor glucose levels and make informed diabetes management decisions.

Replacing the Sensor:

  • Replace the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor every 14 days. Safely remove and dispose of the old sensor as per manufacturer instructions before applying a new one.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor can be used to calculate insulin doses via the system's insulin calculator, but this feature must be set up by a qualified healthcare professional.

The insulin calculator on the reader uses the glucose reading from a blood glucose meter, the settings entered by a healthcare professional, and user-provided carbohydrate information to calculate recommended insulin doses.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is suitable for children aged 2-12 only under caregiver supervision or if the user is at least 18 years old.

Caregivers must assist children in using the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor and interpreting its glucose readings or help the child in interpretation.
