From 1st September, Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, will be raising the price of Mounjaro across the UK market. This move is intended to bring UK pricing more in line with other developed nations.
We want to be clear: this decision comes from Eli Lilly, not from us.
We understand that news of a price increase can be distressing. For many, Mounjaro has been life-changing, and this period of uncertainty is understandably worrying. Please know that you are not alone.
At Pharmacy Prime, your health and wellbeing have always been our priority, and that hasn’t changed. We’re here to support you through this period and help make sure your weight-loss journey can continue as smoothly as possible.
What does this mean for me?
Unfortunately, the cost of Mounjaro will rise across the UK market. But we want you to know that we are doing everything we can to keep your costs as low as possible.
Here’s how we’re supporting you:
- Negotiating directly with Eli Lilly thanks to our strong, long-term relationship
- Absorbing much of the increase ourselves
- Freezing prices until 14th September for existing patients to give you time to make informed decisions. This means any check-ins processed before this date will remain at the old prices. We may be able to extend this period further, but this will depend on stock availability.

Stay on Mounjaro.
Mounjaro remains one of the most effective weight-loss treatments available, and we want to make it as accessible as possible. While costs have increased, we are absorbing most of the rise ourselves rather than passing it all on.
If you’d like to continue your Mounjaro journey, simply check in as usual, and we’ll make sure your treatment continues smoothly. Exact pricing will be confirmed soon, and we’ll share the updated rates as soon as they’re finalised.
Step down to a lower dose.
Rising costs should never come at the expense of your health— and ‘stepping down’ (titrating down to a lower dose) doesn’t necessarily mean stepping back. Even at reduced doses, Mounjaro still remains highly effective.
Clinical trials found that patients on Wegovy lost on average 17% of their body weight. This is comparable to the lower doses of Mounjaro at 16% on 5mg, as seen below.
We’ll be covering most of the increase on lower doses, so they’ll remain an affordable option.
If you’d like to consider lowering your dose, our clinicians can support you in doing so safely and gradually. It’s important not to stop Mounjaro suddenly (‘cold turkey’), as this can disrupt your progress and lead to unwanted side effects.

Switch over to Wegovy.
This is now our recommended cost-effective option. And it is far from a compromise.
Novo Nordisk is considering a 7.2mg Wegovy dose (expected later this year or early 2026 in the UK), which delivered an average weight loss of 20.7% in the STEP-UP trial, with 1 in 3 patients losing over 25% of their body weight—results approaching those seen with the higher doses of Mounjaro.
We are also offering our current Mounjaro patients a switching discount on their first month of Wegovy, which will be automatically applied. If this is something you’d like to consider, we’ll guide you safely and gently through the transition, ensuring it’s as smooth and supported as possible.
How much is Wegovy going to be?
We are still negotiating prices with Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer, and will share an updated price list as soon as we have it.
Please note that we do have a close, established relationship with Novo Nordisk and are hopeful that we will be able to secure special pricing.
What are the benefits of Wegovy?
- Clinically proven weight loss. It can lead to an average loss of 17% of body weight after 68 weeks.
- New higher dose pending. 7.2mg is soon to come onto the market which delivered an average weight loss of 20.7% in the STEP-UP trial, comparable to the higher doses of Mounjaro.
- Extensive safety data. Wegovy/Ozempic was the first to market in this space and have years of clinical data and evidence. Wegovy is widely prescribed and well-studied.
- Improved heart health. Wegovy is the first weight loss drug approved in the UK as a preventative treatment for those with established cardiovascular disease.
- Better blood sugar control. Wegovy helps regulate blood sugar levels, especially important for those at risk of type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
- Reduced inflammation. Wegovy may help lower chronic inflammation caused by excess body fat, supporting overall immune and organ health.
- Potentially lower cost. Helping you manage treatment without compromising your goals.
Is it simple to switch to Wegovy from Mounjaro?
Absolutely. In order to switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy, you’ll need to make a request through your check-in form when placing your order and from there you’ll be guided through our clinician-led switching pathway. We’ll assess your health profile, and if we determine the switch poses no risk to you, we’ll then monitor your progress and any side effects closely. Together, we’ll work closely with our nutritionists to ensure the transition runs as smoothly and comfortably as possible—something unique to our care at Pharmacy Prime.
Will I need to start on the lowest dose of Wegovy?
Not always. You may choose to do so to reduce the risk of side effects as much as possible; however, should you wish to start on a higher dose to maintain your progress, the table below shows the Wegovy dose you may be able to switch to from Mounjaro.
Note: Please use this table as more of a guide rather than a guarantee. Switches are subject to tolerability and will be determined based on your individual profile. Ultimately, any dose adjustment—whether starting low or higher—will be guided and approved by your clinician to ensure your body adjusts safely and to minimize the risk of side effects. As your body may take some time to adjust, you may see a temporary slow-down in the progress you’re used to.
Will I need a washout period?
Nope! You should leave a 7-day gap between medications, so you can continue dosing on your usual schedule without interruptions.
Are side-effects worse on Wegovy?
From our experience as a pharmacy, some patients may find the side effects of Wegovy difficult to tolerate. If you’re concerned about this, we usually recommend either continuing with Mounjaro or considering a gradual dose reduction to make the treatment more affordable, while still maintaining its effectiveness.
A quick heads-up: Some patients may experience vomiting as a side effect, especially in the early stages. While it can feel unpleasant at first, the good news is that for most people this eases as the body adjusts to the medication.

Please note: Bundles are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, will only be confirmed after 1st September once stock is assessed, and are not a long-term solution. If a bundle isn’t possible, we’ll support you with alternatives such as stepping down or switching to Wegovy.
If you’d like to take advantage of this option, please let us know during your check-in and make sure to submit your request by 1st September so we can prioritise accordingly. If you have already checked in or are not due to check in for a while, please email us to request a bundle.
If you are granted a bundle, please ensure that you’re available for delivery and are able to store the pens correctly. Unfortunately, if you miss your delivery we cannot be held liable for this.
Please also note that these bundles are still prescription medication and subject to clinical approval. You must meet certain health criteria before we are able to prescribe to you.

How much will the price of Mounjaro increase?
As we are still in conversations, we don’t know yet. We’re committed to clarity and transparency, so as soon as we know we will share our updated price list with you.
Will this mean it’s harder to get Mounjaro?
No. Once the price change comes into full effect it is not likely you will encounter problems obtaining your prescription. Any stock issues you might notice across providers at present will simply be people buying up Mounjaro at the current prices.
Is it easy to switch to you if I’m unhappy with my current provider?
Super easy. Complete a consultation with our Superintendent Prescriber Haroon and we’ll pick up seamlessly from where you left off, even if you’re also planning on switching medications.
Will there be Wegovy stock issues now everyone’s switching?
We have a very close relationship with Novo Nordisk and are confident we can manage the increased demand without any issues.
Is Mounjaro changing?
Please rest assured that the medication itself hasn’t changed, only the price. Mounjaro remains safe, effective, and the same trusted treatment you’ve been using.
